I am pleased to announce that the Accelerated Reader Program (AR) will begin this week. Teachers have been given a class list with each student’s ID and Password.
After completing a book the students may access the AR Program from school or home and take a reading comprehension quiz. Students may log onto the school’s website www.southlakecharter.org, then click on Student’s Corner, then click on Click Here to take an AR Test.
You will also notice in the Student’s Corner a link to find AR books. You may sort in many different ways including by reading level. With over 118,000 books to choose from, this is a great reference.

Here is the 2009-2010 Class Reading Challenge:
Each class which has 100% participation and each student has earned a minimum of 10 points will receive an ICE CREAM Party in their classroom. The party will be coordinated with the teacher as earned. Also, the ONE CLASS in grades 1 through 5 which has 100% participation and each student has earned a minimum of 25 points will receive a PIZZA Party. If more than one class has reached this level the class with the most students with the highest points will earn the PIZZA Party. The pizza party will be held at the end of the school year.

Students will receive $.05 for each AR Point earned which may be used towards either a Coupon for a book purchase at the Spring Book Fair or a Gift Card to a local merchant (ie. Barnes and Nobles, Target, EPIC Movie…). Points will accumulate throughout the school year and so will the $$$$!
